Satura

Satura is a student-run, humanities-focused journal founded by students of the University of Münster’s English Department. The journal publishes both academic and creative literary work and releases one themed issue per year, each centered around a specific topic.

The Challenge

When I joined Satura, the journal faced several structural and visibility challenges. It lacked stable funding and needed to strengthen its identity both as the department’s official journal and as a literary publication on campus. While Satura had an existing Instagram account, its digital presence was underdeveloped: it was not yet featured on the department’s website, had limited reach on social media, and struggled to attract a sufficient number of submissions.

My work focused on strengthening Satura’s brand identity, expanding its digital reach, and positioning it as an active literary space within the university community rather than solely a once-a-year publication.

My Approach

To address these challenges, I conducted a competitive analysis of other student-run and independent literary journals to identify effective positioning and content strategies. Based on this research, I developed a structured content plan, including recurring monthly rubrics and video formats tailored for social media.

As Satura operates as a non-profit publication, I prioritized organic audience growth through trend-driven and platform-native video content. In parallel, I organized student-focused events promoted through social media and carried out targeted email outreach to establish collaborations and increase the journal’s visibility across campus.

Collaborations

Satura collaborated with Münster’s cultural office to feature selected authors on Literaturline, a platform dedicated to showcasing local literary voices. As part of this collaboration, authors participated in recorded interviews and readings of their work, which were published on the Literaturline website.
